From the Pastor...
This is the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time. In our readings this weekend we see God’s plan for marriage. “…the two shall become one flesh.” God allowed Adam to experience loneliness before creating Eve. When Adam encountered Eve, he realized that here at last was one he could relate with fully and find fulfilment as God designed it for him.
Due to the effects of Original Sin, all of our relationships are frequently less considerate and loving than they should be. Marriage is a relationship which Satan will seek to attack very purposefully because from marriage family flows. In family we learn the meaning of love, self-sacrifice, giving freely for others. The values that are necessary for human society to be lived to the fullest are first learned in the family. Prayers to discover the person God has chosen for us are important prior to marriage. A nuptial mass on one’s wedding day lays the foundation of the family which is formed by the exchange of marriage vows, in God’s grace. Daily prayer, both privately and together as a couple, provide the means to live out a loving marriage which will provide good example for one’s own children and for the families around us. Consciousness of our Guardian Angel and actively seeking his guidance each day all through the day is a most effective means to enable ourselves to cooperate with God’s grace throughout the day and especially its trying moments.
May our Lady and St. Joseph pray for all married couples to be open to God’s will and to actively seek his love each day.
