FROM THE PASTOR
This is the 4th Sunday of the Easter Season. This is often referred to as Good Shepherd Sunday as our Gospel refers to us as His sheep and to Jesus as leading us to eternal life. Middle eastern shepherds walked in front of and led their flocks. They do not drive them from behind. As a result, the sheep learn to follow them as they see them all the time and learn that wherever their shepherd goes they will find food, water and safe shelter.
As Christians, we should learn to recognize our Lord Jesus and learn that by following in His ways we will always come to that which nourishes and protects us. The deceits of the world seek to keep us from recognizing this truth. But only in Jesus and following His way do we come to true happiness and serenity. Only in following our Good Shepherd do we come to eternal life.
Learn to follow our Good Shepherd Jesus Christ every day. Only in His way do we really come to fulfilment and serenity. He will always watch over and protect the sheep of His flock. During this month of May, Month of Mary, invoke her motherly prayers to be able to follow her son Jesus as though our life depends on it. It does!
This year mass for Memorial Day will be at Ss. Peter and Paul. We will have mass in church at 9:00AM. Then we will form up following the priest’s car and drive up to the cemetery just outside town much like a funeral cortege. There we will have a brief prayer service following military honors and then father will go to each grave as families in attendance decorate them, to bless them and sprinkle them with holy water. May a train not come to see what we’re up to as we process from church up to the cemetery!
